Imagine a motion comic without any animation or CGI. It doesn’t make sense, and it’s difficult to picture how it would work. Edson Oda has figured it out, and he’s done a brilliant job.
His short, titled “Malaria,” employs origami, time lapse, and kirigami among other techniques to tell a story with an Old West influence. In this untraditional motion comic, a killer for hire takes on a job to murder Death. It doesn’t turn out quite like he plans.
The story is simple, straightforward. The way it is told is not – it’s absolutely brilliant. Everything from the papers sliding in and out of frame to the way the word balloons are cut into each page to the voiceovers to the sound effects. Wow. If you only watch one video this week, make it this one.
Watch the comic after the break.
