As many of you probably know, Michael J. Fox almost wasn’t Marty McFly. Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis initially had Eric Stoltz in the iconic role but after four weeks of filming, it just wasn’t working. He put Fox into McFly’s tennis shoes, and it’s difficult to imagine anyone else in the films. David Guy Levy has done just that though in his comic called Back to Back to the Future.
His story explores what would happen if Bob Gale (BTTF co-writer and producer) and Melora Hardin (almost Jennifer Parker) accidentally travel back in time and make sure that Stoltz stays in the movie as Marty McFly. What would happen with a different person in the role? Levy got the idea after reading an interview with Gale where Gale talked about how hard it was to fire Hardin.
“…I’ll tell you, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do, breaking the news to Melora, because she didn’t do anything to warrant being let go. She was in tears, of course, and I was sick about it for days. I haven’t spoken with her in about ten years, but now that I’m thinking about her, I just might have to do that.”
Levy is telling his reality altering story via a digital comic in six installments with art by Jeffrey Spokes, and the first issue is available for free download. It’s worth checking out at least for the wonderful art.
