Looks like there’s another reboot coming from Bad Robot.
This time, J.J Abrams, Person Of Interest creator Jonathan Nolan, and WB TV producer Jerry Weintraub are partnering to adapt the 1973 film into a series and HBO has said they’d commit to funding the pilot.
The pilot will be written by Nolan and Burn Notice writer Lisa Joy. Deadline reports, “Westworld is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”
I’m intrigued to see what HBO decides to do once they see the pilot. It’s the first time Abrams has gotten a deal for cable, so it would be interesting to see what he might do with more latitude than network TV allows. Westworld was definitely groundbreaking in ’73. Maybe it will be again.
