Every year the Social Security Administration releases a list showing the most popular baby names for the previous year. The top names stayed the same from 2011 to 2012 (Jacob and Sophia), but one name jumped out as a mover and shaker for baby girls: Arya. I knew the show was having an effect when I overheard a non-geeky co-worker talking about how a friend stole the baby name she wanted for her kid. That name was Arya. As in, Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. Just so.
Arya was the fastest-rising name for baby girls. It moved from 413 to 298. Not too shabby at all. She’s a wonderful character, and I can see how parents would want their daughters to be just as spunky and strong as the youngest Stark girl.
