Since Disney acquired Marvel, fans have been waiting and hoping for Marvel heroes to become part of the theme park properties. It looks like it’s finally starting to happen, and Hong Kong Disneyland will be the first location to get a Marvel area.
John Tsang Chun-wah, Hong Kong’s financial chief, shared the exciting news while presenting his annual budget to the city’s legislature earlier this week. Chun-wah said Disneyland’s Marvel section will be the first of its kind in the world. Local press reports the Marvel themed area will be finished by 2017.
They haven’t made decisions just yet about characters or what kind of rides will be in the new part of the park, but they will be figuring it out in the next few months. Given that The Avengers film was extremely popular in China, I bet they’ll do all they can to incorporate members of that team.
As for when we will see a Marvel injection in U.S. parks, it looks like Disneyland in Anaheim is our best bet for the near future, though nothing official has been announced thus far. Disney World in Florida is currently operating under an existing deal with Universal Studios and Marvel, so it might be quite some time before things change there.
