Joss Whedon Won’t Be Showrunner For New S.H.I.E.L.D. Television Show

The news broke earlier this week that ABC has ordered a live-action S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot from Joss Whedon. There was much rejoicing as he confirmed that he would be writing the pilot along with his brother, Jed Whedon, and Jed’s wife, Mo Tancharoen. He’ll also be directing if his schedule allows.

Yesterday, more details surfaced, and although he’ll be heavily involved in the pilot, it’ll be his wife and brother that will be the showrunners. He plans to pop in now and then, give them his two cents, and then disappear back to his other projects.

Additionally, Whedon has stated that this is most definitely not a spinoff of The Avengers movie. Plans are for this to be completely “autonomous” from the movie and its storylines. This is S.H.I.E.L.D, not more of The Avengers. At this stage though, we’re still just looking at a pilot, so who knows if it’ll actually get picked up and become the next darling of the Whedon-verse.
