Firefly was an awesome show for many reasons, and I could write a list that goes on and on about why. The Legal Geeks explore a reason I hadn’t thought about before though: how the show demonstrates contract law. They choose three episodes that illustrate the basics of the contract formation: offer, acceptance, consideration, and performance. As you probably remember, the crew had difficulties with agreements. They either didn’t get paid or had moral problems with the job at hand – like in “The Train Job.” As The Legal Geeks point out:
Firefly essentially was about engaging in contract work for payment. Each episode has different themes on issues of formation, breach or remedies. While the show was certainly not a transactional space adventure with cowboys, the contract issues are very prevalent.
