Nerd Approved Gets a Makeover

As you may have noticed, Nerd Approved got a makeover during the weekend. The cosmetic updates are relatively minor, but functionality has been improved on both my end and yours. Better navigation / access to twitter and RSS feeds, gravitar support, threaded comments and a secti0n in the sidebar highlighting featured content (which may or may not stay) are among these changes. There is still some tweaking to be done, but I hope that you guys approve of the upgrade overall.

UPDATE: Featured content section removed.

The old platform was way better.

looks good Sean. you should make your header image a link to home.

  • Sean Fallon

Yeah, there seems to be a weird bug with the header – I’ll get that fixed. The Featured Content gallery might have to go as well. That damn thing is a major resource hog.

I like the new look, but the new way to navigate through the old posts is way worst than the old one…

    • Sean Fallon

How so? I really haven’t changed anything on that end. I did just update the archive pages to show post excerpts though – as they did before.

      • James

The problem is – there are no photos on the older posts – agree, i liked the old version better.

        • James

And dont tell me to click the links – i do enough clicking :p

          • cavjunior

that’s exactly what I was talking about! Thanks James.

Well, the prior version didn’t have photos on the older posts either. But I certainly have no problem doing that. Archive pages are now set to display posts in the same format as the home page.

This way looks more clean I have to admit.

I like the “old version”. It showed 10 or so entries per page with pictures. I could click “previous entries” for as many pages as I wanted and each entry still showed a picture. This new way, while cleaner, means I have to keep clicking many, many links to see pictures. Its highly inefficient.

  • Mirdreams

Yes, not seeing pictures means I’m not going to click through which means I’m not even going to look at the older entries. Which is too bad, because I’ve stopped reading other blogs over similar issues.
