Japan’s Origami Vending Machine Is A Wonderful Thing

Japan is well known for dispensing anything and everything through vending machines, so it’s increasingly difficult to find one that truly surprises you. This origami vending machine represents one of those rare moments.

Located in Uchiko in Ehime Prefecture, the machine pays tribute to the traditional Japanese art of paper folding with beautifully pre-folded designs that range from 10 to 50 yen each. Offerings include (among others) a shuriken ninja throwing star, a pair of lips that open and close, a crow that opens its beak and an acrobatic horse that flips.

The origami items are reportedly made by a 61 year-old woman who runs the shop where the machine is located. Twitter user @bon_chic purchased several, and noted that they were extremely well-made and featured beautiful paper that matched and enhanced each of the designs.

This is such a simple, beautiful idea.
