Freelance concept artist Joshua Dunlop created series dubbed “Pokémon Zoology” that features realistic images of classic Pokémon. We’ve seen realistic Pokémon concepts in the past, but these are, like…the realest.

The series features three popular Pokémon: Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. Dunlop noted to Mashable that he used actual creatures for a reference.

“I originally sketched out some rough ideas in Photoshop, using real life animals as reference. Once I was happy, I used a 3D program called 3D-Coat to build and texture the model,” he said.

Dunlop hopes to create more 3D real-life Pokémon art pieces for this series.

“I’m actually looking into possibly making a fan website focusing on Pokémon Zoology. Looking at their diets, habitats, breeding and training, accompanied by my 3D and Digital Artwork,” Dunlop pointed out. “I think it would be a great project and would be happy to work with anyone willing to help (starting with a web designer).”

Dunlop is currently gathering funds for this project on Patreon. If you’d like to check out more of his art, head on over to Twitter or Facebook.
