The Crew Building a Full Scale Millennium Falcon Is Living Out The Dream of Every Star Wars Fan

A team of six Star Wars fans are taking on an amazingly cool project: they’re building a life-size replica of the Millennium Falcon. Founder and project leader Chris Lee just decided he wanted to make the ultimate prop: “a 1:1 scale ESB/ANH hybrid Millennium Falcon with complete, correctly scaled interior.” That’s not completely crazy; it’s not like he’s trying to fly it into space or anything.

One key part of creating a giant ship is figuring out where it’s going to reside when it’s complete. Lee says he has a 88 acre tract of land and that 400′ x 400′ of it will be cleared of trees for the build; he hopes it will show up on Google Earth.  He’s also building a shop and storage facility so the ship can be permanently covered when it’s done. That’s dedication. Okay, the entire project is oozing with it.

He’s using plans from the Star Wars Blueprints DK Ultimate Collection to base his figures on, and he estimates the finished ship will be 114′ long. Whew. Based on his website, the project has been going since 2007 and he figured it would take 5-7 years. Though he’s made a lot of progress with the cockpit and valve gun, I think he’s going to need to add some time to that estimate.

See more in progress photos of the cockpit and valve gun after the break.
