The CW Plans To Capitalize On The Success Of The Hunger Games By Making Kids Hunt Each Other In The Woods For Real

It’s no secret that The Hunger Games  series has been very popular. Young adults and adults are wrapped up in the franchise and have spent lots of dollars on the books, films, and associated merchandise. The books tackle a serious subject matter and in fact, much of the series is brutal. Children are pitted against each other and cheered on by residents of the Capitol; their families are forced to watch – it’s all pretty horrible. But since the series has been received so well, it has to mean that people would like a similar reality show, right?

That’s what The CW thinks. They’ve announced a reality series called The Hunt that parallels The Hunger Games in many ways. There is obviously no murder, but it is about survival. The participants will be 12 teams with two people just like in Panem, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some sort of parade at the beginning and if the teams are treated like members of the same district.

Here’s the official description:

THE HUNT is an intense wilderness competition taking place over one month, as 12 teams of two are provided no food, water, or shelter, but must compete in a game where they’ll rely on their physicality, survival skills, and hunting skills to endure their conditions, capture one another, and ultimately win a huge cash prize.

I know that capturing isn’t like killing, but the overall tone seems too close. It makes me uncomfortable.

What do you guys think?
