Heres’s an interesting spin on the lineage in Game of Thrones that’s been floating around the internet for years but has now been thrust into the limelight thanks to BuzzFeed. It proposes that Tyrion Lannister’s parents may not be Tywin and Joanna Lannister after all, but the product of an affair between King Aerys Targaryen (Daenerys’s dad) and Joanna Lannister.
The idea was first put forth back in 2010 by Tower of the Hand and suggests that Tywin attempted to abort the baby with a drug that caused Tyrion’s deformity and Joanna’s death. They say this would also explain why Tywin hates Tyrion so much, and why he was so ready to destroy Aerys. It may also explain why Tywin tells Tyrion that he’s “no son of mine” in the last moments of his life.
If that wasn’t enough to make your head spin, how about the notion that Jon Snow is really the child of Rhaegar Targaryen Lyanna Stark? All this would give the prophecy Daenerys heard in the House of the Undying a whole new meaning. “The dragon has three heads,” could be Daenerys, Tyrion, and Jon Snow! All three were “born of blood” as their mothers died giving birth to them.
So, is Tyrion a Targaryen? Will we eventually see him conquering Westeros atop a dragon?
