Nathan Fillion and Sean Maher were both at the New York Comic-Con Firefly panel over the weekend, and they both mentioned something about a possible animated series. Sort of. And because we’re Browncoats, we freaked out. Here’s why this rumor is floating around:
The NY Post reported that Fillion said the following to a room packed with fans at the panel:
“If we’re dreaming, tell me what you think about this: ‘Firefly’ the animated series.”
And of course, everyone got excited. Though it’s certainly not my first choice of what I’d like if the universe were to be expanded upon or revived, I’ll take whatever I can get. I miss that ‘verse terribly. Most of us do. The NY Post followed up with Maher after the panel and he said:
“I know somebody who is actually trying to get that done, who has approached Joss about it. He used to work with Guillermo del Toro.”
Will anything come of this? I’m doubtful. To me it sounds like the concept has already been turned down, and that Fillion is expressing some of his contagious optimism and wishful thinking. It would undoubtedly be neat if done in the right style, but I wouldn’t hold your breath while waiting for further news about it.
Note: Above image (by Otis Frampton) has nothing to do with the rumor except that it’s animated, Firefly, and looks really cool. Indeed, this isn’t the first time we’ve thought about the possibility of a Firefly animated series.
