Picking out a name for you child is a big deal, so a lot of thought goes into the process. If you’re a nerd parent, then there’s a good chance your kid will have a name that’s a nod to your favorite fandom. According to Nameberry, some new and very unusual names cropped up last year as well as a smattering that clearly belong to the offspring of nerd parents:
There are names [on the list] from around the world freshly introduced to America: Junhao and Mokshith and Motoki. There are original combo names — Charlotterose and Marcusjames — and there are new word names and place-names and surname-names — Revelation and Tokyo and Thoreau — and there are even a couple of wonderful old names revived for the modern world: Hypatia and Thisbe, Romilly and Calisto.
That covers the odd names, all of which showed up on the US Social Security list at least 5 times for the year. Other more nerdy names include 63 girls named Vanellope, seven named Rarity, and another seven named Prim. The girls seemed to get the bulk of the nerdy names, but there were some particularly tech savvy parents who gave birth to 6 boys named Kyndle, 6 named Charger, and even 5 named Kaptain.
