Earlier this year, the University of Arizona discovered a new gas giant which was named HD 106906 b. This 13 million year old planet is now up for a possible name change thanks to a petition by Australian Doctor Who fan Sam Menhennet. He would like to see it have the fan-friendly name of “Gallifrey” and he’s collecting signatures to submit to the International Astronomical Union.
Doctor Who is legendary, award winning, record breaking, and global, and this planet deserves something special and supernatural as its name, How better to honor its existence than by dubbing it the home planet of our beloved time travelling alien, The Doctor?
The petition has currently achieved well over 100,000 signatures, and you can add your name to them at Change.org and help make Gallifrey a real planet.
