We knew that Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell were cooking up an Evil Dead tv series, but at that point it was just a lot of talk. Given all of the unfounded rumors on the issue of Ash’s return over the years, we took it with a grain of salt.
This time things are different. It’s actually happening.
Starz has ordered a 10-episode series called Ash Vs. Evil Dead for a 2015 premiere. Bruce Campbell will star and co-produce the series and Sam Raimi will direct (the first episode at least). And yes, it will serve as a followup to to the films. Essentially, it’s the Evil Dead 4 that we’ve been waiting for:
Campbell reprises his role as the title character Ash, a stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last three decades avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons — personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its evil grip.
“Evil Dead has always been a blast,” Raimi said. “Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”
Truckload indeed. Instead of and hour-and-a-half of Evil Dead on the big screen, we’re getting five hours to enjoy on television. Personally, I couldn’t be more excited about it.
