It’s official that Bill Murray will not be appearing in Ghostbusters 3. The news was confirmed in a recent Metro interview with Dan Aykroyd in which he said:
It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.
As disappointing as it may be to hear that Murray isn’t attached to the film, at least there’s going to be a film. Aykroyd has been working hard to see that the movie lives up to expectations, even recently hiring an entirely new slate of writers to make it perfect—though that hardly seems possible without Murray.
