Could Yoda Take Center Stage In the First Stand Alone Star Wars Film?

It’s been a week or so since we’ve had a fresh Star Wars rumor, and I’m guessing you were feeling deprived. Maybe you were even starting to twitch. Well, you can calm down because I have a new shiny piece of gossip to get you going. As you know, Disney mentioned they wouldn’t just be sticking to the sequel trilogy. They’re also planning to make other, one-shot films set in the Star Wars galaxy.  Though nothing has been stated about the subject of those stand alone films, Harry Knowles of Ain’t It Cool News stated point blank that the first one will focus on Yoda. Huh.

From his report:

The first Stand Alone film is going to center upon YODA.  At this stage specifics are sparse, but Kathleen Kennedy is putting together a STAR WARS slate…  I’m wildly curious for more details on the YODA film – would this be a young or old YODA tale?

He offers absolutely no source or information to back up this statement and while some people I respect consider him to be reliable, others do not. We should take the rumor with a giant grain of salt, but it’s still fun to speculate.

If we do get a film all about the green guy, I’d hope they would pull from a time period we haven’t explored with Yoda – before The Clone Wars. If anyone could make it work Disney could, but Yoda isn’t my first choice for a stand alone movie. I want some characters in the Star Wars galaxy to keep their secrets, and I’d much rather Yoda’s origin story be left alone.

Are you excited about the possibility of a Yoda-centric movie?
