Marvel is finally talking about Item 47, the short-film that will be part of The Avengers Blu-ray release on September 25th. This “One-Shot” will tell the story of Benny(Jesse Bradford) and Claire(Lizzy Caplan) who’ve managed to get their hands on one of the alien guns known as Item 47. Their names ring a lot like Bonnie and Clyde because that’s exactly who these two imitate as they start robbing banks and causing all sorts of trouble.
Two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are given the task of retrieving the alien guns from these everyday folks gone a little crazy. The whole idea is to show that just because The Avengers have saved the world, the world doesn’t exactly feel safe. We’ve seen Gods and aliens and massive amounts of destruction and this has taken a toll on all us normal people.
According to Item 47 writer Eric Pearson, “Anything that expands the world and shows you the more human elements of it, that just makes the world more colorful and fun for the average viewer.” This short clocks in at 12 minutes, a good bit longer than the four minute shorts on films like Thor and Captain America, and promises to be a more developed story.
There is also a possibility that this could be a sign of things to come, with longer shorts and expanded storylines for everyday characters and maybe even some heros we haven’t yet seen. Marvel Studios co-President Louis D’Esposito says, “There’s always a potential to introduce a character. We have 8,000 of them, and they can’t all be at the same level. So maybe there are some that are not so popular, and we introduce them—and they take off. I could see that happening.”
