Kyle MacLachlan Explains ‘Dune’ With Emojis

Do you find the film version of Dune confusing? Don’t worry, Kyle MacLachlan (Paul Atreides) can explain the plot in emojis for your convenience.

This is particularly brilliant because several edits of Dune exist ranging from the theatrical two-hour edit to a two-part TV edit spanning 186 of our Earth minutes, to Lynch’s unreleased original cut which, according to legend, is eighty-thousand years long. MacLachlan’s tweet, by contrast, is just 41 characters.

As you probably know, Lynch and MacLachlan are working together again on the Showtime revival of Lynch’s TV series Twin Peaks, in which MacLachlan plays Special Agent Dale Cooper, an FBI agent who (and I’ve not seen the show so I’m going solely by what I’ve seen on Tumblr) goes around a small town drinking coffee and talking to trees. This isn’t strictly speaking relevant but there’s a nice bit of creative symmetry there, I think.
