Gary Oldman confirmed that he has been contacted by Lucasfilm about the possibility of a role in the upcoming Star Wars VII movie. Sky News asked Oldman about Star Wars in a recent interview on the Robocop circuit which is when the actor confirmed the news.
“They’ve called,” Oldman stated. “I’m more cynical about it now,” he continued. “I’ll believe it when I’m on the plane home. The deal isn’t done. But yeah, they’ve inquired.”
That’s all he said about the matter, so we have no idea exactly where his possible casting stands or even for which part he was being considered. There were reports that the studio was at one point looking for a “40-something military man a la Matt Damon in Elysium” and a “seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour.”
Oldman is 55-years old so he doesn’t quite fit the bill for either of those but, given his abilities, we wouldn’t be surprised if he could pull of the role of Luke’s kid.
