The number of rumors circulating Star Wars Episode VII is absolutely crazy. It seems like unconfirmed stories have been hitting the internet at rapid speed over the last few months, and one of the persistent ones is about Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford returning to reprise their roles. Various people with “insider sources” have confirmed the trio is coming back, and Fisher even said she was (and later stated she was joking). Nothing has been announced by Lucasfilm or Disney.
However, George Lucas recently spoke with Bloomberg Business Week and one particular quote gives us some insight on where these rumors are founded:
We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them. I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.
I do remember hearing murmurs of Lucas having lunch with Hamill and Fisher during Star Wars Celebration VI in August, but it’s hard to say whether these negotiations happened before or after the Mouse entered the picture. I personally wouldn’t be surprised to see all three of them show up, if only briefly (in fact, I’d rather it be briefly). However, let’s all just keep our knickers untwisted until we get an official press release.
