A recently discovered copy of an original Star Wars script proves, once and for all, that Han shot first. The script was discovered by UNB Saint John librarian Kristian Brown while he was digitizing the library’s collection of zines, pulp magazines and novels.
Lucasfilm has confirmed that it is an authentic early script, albeit a “fan-made” replica version that was often sold at conventions. The script is dated March 15, 1976.
Naturally, there are some differences between what was filmed and what’s in the script, and most of those changes are well known. However, this is what Brown had to say about that controversial cantina scene:
“I’ll tell you one thing, right now,” Brown gleefully points out.
“Based on the script, I can tell you 100 per cent, Han shot first.”
