J.J. Abrams Turned Down Directing “Star Wars: Episode VII”

Fans may eternally debate if Star Wars is better than Star Trek, but J.J. Abrams will be staying clear of that particular battle. He’s had great success with the Star Trek franchise, but he recently stated that he does not want to be involved in the upcoming Star Wars movies. Speaking to Empire, Abrams noted:

“There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn’t even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I’d rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them.”

We’ll all just have to imagine how an Abrams directed Star Wars would look, but I’m betting it would involve a lot of lens flares on shiny metal spaceship hulls.
