Here’s a bit of fantastic news for fans of all things Harry Potter. Although you won’t be getting more of Harry, you will be getting a new series of films set in his world. J.K. Rowling is currently working with Warner Bros. on a series based on the book Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. The book was first released back in 2001 under the pseudonym Newt Scamander and Rowling is now writing the screenplay. She cautions that this is neither a prequel nor a sequel, but an independent story.
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” said Rowling. “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”
As long as it brings us all back to the world of wizards, muggles and chocolate frogs, I think we’ll all be happy.
