John Williams Is Definitely Up For Working On The New Star Wars Trilogy

John Williams

What is Star Wars without the music of John Williams? Even though there are plenty of talented composers who I’m sure are capable of taking on the role for the upcoming sequel trilogy, it’d be weird not to have Williams involved. Though it’s too early for any sort of official news, Williams did comment on the sequels at the Young Musician’s Foundation Debut Orchestra event on Feburary 9.

John Williams Fan Network forum user Karelm posted a direct quote from the evening. Before playing the Star Wars theme, Williams said the following:

“We’re about to play Star Wars [audience interrupts with cheers] and each time we play it, I’m reminded of the first time we played it decades ago. Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes…and years later another trilogy. Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016…so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George…[more cheers].”

I expect to see his name in the credits. Though this would mean that J.J. Abrams’ go-to composer Michael Giacchino would have to sit this one out.
