Most gamers are familiar with the look of a first-person shooter, but to see that perspective with real people is something amazing. Hardcore is a film shot entirely from one character’s point of view and Filmmaker Ilya Naishuller is currently seeking additional funding for the film on IndieGoGo to finish the project. Filming is complete, but he needs the help for CGI and sound mixing. From the IndieGoGo page:
HARDCORE is a modern, action Sci-Fi story about HENRY, a newly resurrected cyborg who must save his wife/creator ESTELLE (Haley Bennet) from the clutches of a psychotic tyrant with telekinetic powers, AKAN (Danila Kozlovsky), and his army of mercenaries. Fighting alongside Henry is JIMMY (Sharlto Copley), who is Henry’s only hope to make it through the day. Hardcore takes place over the course of one day, in Moscow, Russia and it’s all shot in the same style as BAD MOTHERFUCKER to be released in cinemas worldwide.
It’s a very accurate depiction of what happens in games, which are supposed to be accurate depictions of what happens in the real world, which makes this whole thing awfully meta and a little mind-blowing. It’s been done before of course (most notably in the Doom movie), but it seems like Hardcore is taking it to another level.
