Plans For 3D “Star Wars” Postponed But Not Cancelled

Depending on your feelings about 3D, you were either elated or horribly disappointed to hear that plans to release the remaining two Star Wars prequel films in 3D had been cancelled. Now it seems that the films have merely been delayed rather than cancelled outright. According to the official Star Wars site:

Lucasfilm has decided to postpone this fall’s scheduled release of Star Wars Episodes II and III in 3D. Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans. We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.

There are also reports that although J.J. Abrams has committed to the next Star Wars movie that he hasn’t committed to the original release date of 2015. That means it’ll be a good while before any 3D releases hit the screen, if they aren’t scrapped for good in the meantime.
