Star Wars: The Force Awakens really is the film that keeps on giving, isn’t it? It’s very nearly a year since it hit screens, and stuff like this astounding visual effects reel are still popping out for public consumption.
The reel from Industrial Light & Magic offers a look at how some of the VFX for The Force Awakens were assembled, and it does a tremendous job of showing off their work. Almost two decades after CG visual effects started being used more prominently in films like Jurassic Park and The Mask they still have a bit of an image problem, with people assuming that effects like these are easily cranked out, or that there’s no artistry involved in their creation. Breakdowns like these show just how much time, work, energy and craft goes into generating computer-generated effects like this. Check it out for yourself in the video below.
