Writers From “Saw” Are Adapting Childhood Favorite “Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark”

scary stories to tell in the dark

Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark impacted my childhood. The urban legends and folklore kept me awake more than once. I’m such a wimp now I would never try to re-read the series, and I know I wouldn’t be able to watch the movie adaptation CBS Films just jumped on. Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan pitched a movie based on the Scary Stories collection and apparently competitive bidding ensued to buy the pitch.

Melton and Dunstan plan to adapt some “Scary short stories into a screenplay about a group of outcast kids who stand up to their fears to save their town when nightmares come to life.”

The project is only in the beginning stages so who knows how far it will get, but with the popularity of paranormal/supernatural teenager movies and TV shows, it does seem like the time is right to market a film like this.
