I swear to God, Steven Moffat is trying to kill us all with suspense and constant rumors about who will be in the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who. The latest news says Moffat is finishing up a script where all the Doctors have to come together to help the current Doctor, Matt Smith. This news comes from the Birmingham Mail, and backs up a previous rumor that quickly vanished.
The episode, set to air in November, will bring back the first three Doctors (William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee) through studio wizardry. These Doctors will appear in brief flashbacks, but that puts them in the episode so it counts!
Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann are already appearing in an audio anniversary special and have said they’d like to come back for the anniversary episode and the BBC is stalking Tennant to keep him quiet.
The one hold-out was Eccleston, but he’s recently said that he thinks there is more left for him to do with the character. If he’s not definitely out, then he could definitely be in. These little tidbits combined with the reported Moffat script all lend credence to the rumors that we’re going to get all 11 Doctors in one episode, but former Doctor Colin Baker put a damper things by categorically denying his involvement via Twitter saying that he “is not aware of any 50th stories nor have I been approached.”
So, once again we are left wondering what the truth really is.
