All Aboard Japan’s Pikachu Train

Did you know that a Pokemon-themed train has been running in Japan since 2012? I certainly didn’t. Well now that we’ve been properly informed, I should tell you that the train is getting a Pikachu makeover. The question is, which design do you like more?

Personally, I kind of like the original design more—but if you are a big Pikachu fan and/or really like the color yellow, you’ll probably love the makeover. Either way, the concept behind the train is wonderful. The Pokémon With You Train, as it is called, was originally designed to help bring smiles to the faces of people living in the regions hit hardest by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The new look Pokémon With You Train will make its first run on July 15. SN24 notes that the complete service schedule will be:

  • July 15-17, 22-23, 29-31
  • August 1-20, 26-27
  • September 2-3, 9-10, 16-18, 23-24, 30

On each day, the train will depart Ichinoseki at 11:01 a.m., arrive in Kesennuma at 12:51 p.m., then leave on its return trip at 3:08 p.m., arriving back in Ichinoseki at 4:49 p.m. in the afternoon.

Tickets can be reserved through the JR East website.
