Netflix will produce a series based on The Witcher series of novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Visual effects studio Platige Image S.A. (who also worked on the cinematics for The Witcher games) will be involved in the production, and Sapkowski will serve as a creative consultant.
This is certainly good news for Sapkowski, who famously turned down royalties from the extremely popular games in favor of a lump sum payment. In a press release Sapkowski notes:
“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
The show will be executive produced by Sean Daniel and Jason Brown (The Expanse). Tomas Baginski of Platige Image S.A. will also direct at least one episode per season (he also directed the intro videos for The Witcher games). At this point we don’t know how much CGI will be involved, but if the show’s foundation is live-action, I can think of one person that should take a shot at the role of Geralt.
