Steven Moffat has big plans for Sherlock and they extend through two more seasons of the show. At a recent BAFTA event, Moffat said that he and Mark Gatiss have already planned out seasons 4 and 5.
“Rather excitingly, Mark and I, for no particular reason, we just got out of the rain and sat at the top of the [Sherlock] production bus…and we just started plotting out what we could do in the future. And we plotted out the whole of series four and five.”
It seems that stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are just as excited about continuing with the series as everyone else. Moffat went on to say,
“We had to inform the BBC that Martin and Benedict had commissioned a new series. They signed themselves up. They both announced that they were carrying on—so that’s good. Benedict, at some red carpet event somewhere, said he was carrying on forever. Martin, at another one, said, ‘Yep, series four is happening.'”
So, you can all rest easy. Even if Sherlock jumps off of another roof, he’ll be coming back from the dead for at least two more seasons. The only question is, how long will we have to wait?
