Funny how Toshiba announcing that they have developed the MK1011GAH, a 1.8″ 100 GB HDD, has led to nothing but speculation that it would lead to a 100GB iPod.
Toshiba was able to achieve this increase in miniaturization with the perpendicular recording technology that has been around for a short while. And no matter how jaded you may have become with technical advancements, you have to admit that the size of this 100 GB drive is pretty amazing.
Of course this small drive will be used in many other devices, but all I could think of when I read the story is that 100 GB is way too much space to utilize just for music on your iPod, you may as well use some of that space for video. Come on, you all know that is coming. It is just funny how the ubiquity of the iPod rears its head in a lot of strange ways, this being yet another example.
