CES: Toshiba Mini HDD’s

Toshiba annnounced the release of their 0.85 inch, 4 GB 3600 RPM HDD’s. They say that they will be offering 10 GB HDD’s in the future, but will not be offering those to consumer electronics companies until 2007. The original plan was to introduce these in 2005. They also spoke about 6 and 8 GB capacities in the past, but nothing is said about those capacities anymore. There obviously seems to be more to the manufacturing and design of these drives than they intially anticipated.

There is no doubt that as these drives get smaller and smaller, the devices they are built into will get more and more powerful. The size they are today is amazing. I think the picture shown does the miniaturization justice.
