While many users may have no need for this kind of storage, Seagate’s (Maxtor) 1 TB offering will please all those that work with many large files, be they multimedia files or otherwise. Planned to retail for only $899, it brings large scale affordable storage to the masses. In addition, it offers what they refer to as a “gigabit ethernet connection” for fast data transfers.

Consisting of two 500 GB HDD’s, it can be used with the full 1 TB, or set up as RAID level 1 for mirrored data safety. The included software allows for scheduled backups to a One Touch backup drive from Seagate as well that can be rotated for the ultimate in security, off site storage of backups. It also offers the ability for different users to have access to their own password protected folders. It has two USB ports that can be used for printers or other external storage devices. If it works as advertised, and I have no reason to believe it doesn’t, this is quite the bargain for under $1k.
