Seagate is now shipping a 750 GB internal HDD, largest available to this point by 50%. They have been able to achieve these quickly escalating sizes by using the perpendicular recording technology that was recently developed. The MSRP for this drive, the 750 GB Barracuda 7200.10, will be $590.
Coming with a 16 MB cache and RPM of 7200, they will be available for Parallel ATA 100, 1.5 GB SATA or 3 GB SATA interfaces. They employ Native Command Queueing to enhance reliability in heavy workloads by reducing head movement and streamlining the deilvery of queued commands to the drive.
With digital audio and video becoming more prevalent with all the new services being offered, affordable, high capacity drives are the key. And with a single drive of this size being capable of holding 375 hours of standard television, this will just expand the possibilities for computer users. And starting next Monday, the same drive will be available as an external model for only $559.
