If you haven’t yet learned that a power surge or brown out are some of the most dangerous phenomena to hit your electronics, you may have an expensive lesson still in store. Even if your device does not completely stop working, it will likely lead to a shorter life. The problem is, even though you know that it could save you hundreds or thousands in the future, the inital cost of the UPS can still be difficult to rationalize.
Ultra Products is trying to make that decision a little easier. Their base 300 VA model retails for $49.99, and the top of the line 2000 VA model goes for just $229.99. UPS monitoring software is included and communication is via USB. There are alarms built into the UPS for low battery and overload alert. It may not be the cheapest low end product you can find, but the list of features looks impressive. I am also impressed by the relative low cost of the high end model. $200 for 2000 VA? That’s a damn good value if you ask me.
