alarm clock

When it comes to getting up early, I’ve always been a Padawan. I think I always will be. Alarms just make me angry. This new Star Wars design is clever though; it’s meant to be thrown. The design replicates a Jedi training remote (just like Obi-Wan used to train Luke on the Millennium Falcon) and is made from foam rubber. To turn it off, toss it hard against the wall. I suggest adding a target to your wall for more fun.

The alarm should be available in April or May, but you can pre-order it now.

You know those mornings when you get up and for a split second forget where you are, what your name is, and basically everything else about your life? That sensation is bound to cause some problems when your first vision of the day is a strange sound coming from Mike Krumpus’ Defusable Clock. Although there have been clocks like this in the past, this one is stunningly realistic – as least as far as most moviegoers are concerned:

I thought it would be fun to build an alarm clock that looks just like the type of bomb that we always see in Hollywood movies. I certainly don’t know anything about how a real bomb might look, but in the movies they always have sticks of dynamite strapped together, a red digital readout, and a bunch of curly wires. Instead of just building an ordinary clock, I thought it should have a detonation sequence with a scary countdown just like in the movies. And why not make it “defusable” so I can try to stop the countdown by cutting the correct wire?

Mike created the “dynamite” by wrapping wooden dowels in paper (hopefully you’ll realize that before you wet the bed). He also used an ATmega328 to power the board. If you would like one of your own, Mike will be offering kits in the near future; you can sign up for an email notification on the project page.

These awesome Lego Darth Vader and Stormtooper Minifig alarm clocks made the rounds at various Toy Fairs earlier this year, but tomorrow is the big launch day.

Each figure stands about 8-inches tall and features posable arms and legs. But the best part is that snooze and backlight functions are controlled by smacking down on their helmets.

From CubicleBot: Just when you thought USB gadgets couldn’t get any more convoluted, Fascinations delivers a USB-powered aquarium with a pen holder, LCD calendar with weather information, nature sounds, overhead and interior lights and gravel filtration.

It’s a good thing fish are stupid because two of ‘em sharing a 1.5 quart desktop aquarium with a loud buzz and vibration occurring a set times throughout the day sounds like fish hell.

The USB desktop aquarium will launch in mid October for around $20.

Billed as “Clocky’s tech savvy brother”, the Tocky will roll away when the alarm sounds forcing you to catch it.

Apparently, “tech savvy” means that Clocky was kind of like the Dad that doesn’t understand the meaning of ROFL or something. Tocky can also handle MP3s, he has a touch-sensitive interface and you can even record your own alarms. Check it out in action after the break.

Was “The Force” simply a figment of George Lucas’ imagination, or is it a real power that is all around us? My guess is that the real Force exists with Star Wars-themed merchandise, and it is constantly beckoning us to open up our wallets. The following 10 Star Wars products have definitely harnessed that power.

There’s now a free app (iTunes link) available for your iPhone which will allow you to wake up the same way Disney characters do, with the sounds of 2D chirping birds. For added illusion, you can stick your iPhone in this BirdBox and tap the screen in order to see your potential wake up call nesting inside. The BirdBox is made of high quality heavy card, is easy to assemble and is available in four different colors. The only problem is if you smash this alarm clock in the morning, you’ve killed a bird and ruined $100 phone. You don’t want to start your day that way.
