The legendary four-issue series of The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley with it’s darker, grittier Batman has never been adapted for film or television, but that’s about to change. DC Comics Premiere Movies is currently creating a two-part animated adaptation of the series and they’ve chose Peter Weller of RoboCop fame as the voice of Batman. We can look forward to part one this fall and part two sometime next year. I really hope we get to hear Batman say, “Excuse me, I have to go. Somewhere there is a crime happening.”

You have to admit that a video game, movie, or comic has reached a new level when there are fans out there making films based on their favorite stories. It means the story broke through and pushed them to make new material. That’s pretty powerful. CG animator Alex Zemke loves Portal. In fact, he adores the franchise so much that he’s making an unofficial short animated fan film titled Companionship.

Right away it’s pretty obvious that this won’t look like a typical fan film. The in-progress shots show that this is being handled by a professional. I realize visuals aren’t the only factor; he still has to have a good story to go with these test renders. We’ll be staying tuned for more news.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Star Wars it’s that unassuming creatures can kick your butt. Yoda. Obi-Wan. Even Artoo can cause you some serious headaches if he doesn’t agree with your plans. If only the people on this subway had the courtesy to give up their seats for a little old man, then we could have avoided this bloody, butt-kicking, anime smack-down. On second thought, I’m glad they were all a bunch of jerks, because this is a little piece of awesome.

Warner Bros. has green lit a live-action/animation LEGO movie, which is slated for release in 2014. Variety reports that the film will consist of 80 percent animation produced by Animal Logic, an Aussie-based vfx house whose previous credits include Happy Feet and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. Although further details are scarce, Variety has provided a list of those involved with the production:

“Lego” has been in development at Warner Bros. since 2008, when the studio began working with the toymaker on a family comedy based on the popular building blocks with Dan Lin and Roy Lee producing and the writing team of Dan and Kevin Hageman tapped to pen the script. In 2010, Warners brought on the “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to write and direct… Warners recently brought on Chris McKay, director of Adult Swim’s stop-motion animation/comedy “Robot Chicken,” to serve as co-director on “Lego” under Lord and Miller.

With such impressive talent involved behind the scenes, the resulting film will surely be on the top of every LEGO fanatic’s “must see” list.

death-before-decaf

Regardless of whether that hot coffee poured into your mug is decaf or full-caffeinated bliss, this mug’s design will become animated by the hot liquid. Choosing death over having to drink decaf may seem a bit extreme, but you just can’t mess with a man’s coffee.

tigger-phone

You probably get excited when you get a phone call that is not from a telemarketer. Tigger, on the other hand, gets excited for every call. No matter who is on the other end of the ringing line, Tigger will bounce up and down, wave and sing to let you know you have an incoming call. If only there were any possible reason for you to be so excited.

Yesterday I brought you a 9- foot tall, 17-foot long Brachiosaurus sculpture that cost a hefty $4000. Today I found a robot dinosaur that eats that tree-hugging Brachiosaurus for breakfast. This monster T-Rex skeleton stands 13 feet tall, 25 feet long and rests on a 4-foot museum stand (optional). It also features 6 lifelike movements and an Earth-shattering roar. But you really have to see it to believe it. Hit the video after the jump to see what kind of prop $22,000 buys you.
