back to the future

Doc Brown’s 88 MPH with time travel in a 35 mph zone is going to be tough to beat.

The thing that made the original DeLorean so cool was that it was a pricey, stainless steel car with gull-wing doors. Oh, and there was that whole Back to The Future thing that added to the allure. I wanted one and I wanted it to have a flux capicitor and also Michael J. Fox. Now I can finally have a DeLorean, sort of. This really is a DeLorean-branded bike.

A conversation between Stephen Wynne, CEO of Delorean Motor Company, and Marc Moore, a cyclist and a former DeLorean owner, resulted in this stainless steel bike built for real biking enthusiasts with $5495 to blow. It better come with a flux capicitor at that price.

New in the Nerd Approved Shop—Diamond Select’s Back To The Future III DeLorean!

Based on the Back to the Future III movie, this is one of the coolest toy DeLoreans money can buy. Not only does it feature classic DMC engineering (like the gull-wing doors and Doc Brown’s own special modifications). The wheels spin, the doors open, and its plastic construction feels just like the toy you always wished you had. Don’t miss your chance at owning one of America’s finest motorcars … with a special, Wild West, time-traveling twist! It’s 13-inches long and compatible with many 3 3/4-inch scale action figures (not included).

As you know, Biff Tannen was Marty McFly’s nemesis in The Back to The Future trilogy. It didn’t matter if he was young Biff or old Biff, he was a jerk. But the guy that played him, Tom Wilson, is damn funny and he has the world’s most verbose business card as proof. Rather than answer the same questions about the movie over and over, he wrote up all the things he’s constantly asked and put them on his business card. And he even wrote up a song to go with it.

If they did it for Harry Potter then they have to do it for Marty McFly. Check out this Back to the Future themed Lego set that you may soon be able to buy. It includes pieces for three different DeLoreans, three Martys and three Docs so you can model them after whichever film in the trilogy is your favorite. This was created as a part of Lego Cuusoo, which encourages fans to design and submit ideas and, if they get 10,000 votes, their project is seriously evaluated for production (a Minecraft version recently passed muster). The Back to the Future set has the votes, now we just have to hope that the good folks at Lego decide they can make it for all of us.

YouTuber “techsavvyed” used Adobe Premiere to give a scene from Back To The Future 3 a silent film makeover. He actually did a hell of a good job, as it actually has the appearance of a movie made in the teens or twenties – an effect that even big budget films seem to have trouble pulling off convincingly.

I’ve not seen many – or any – Lego builds I’d call sexy, but this 1:15 scale DeLorean certainly earns the title. Alex Jones aka Orion Pax constructed the time traveling car completely out of Lego bricks and finished it with a coat of silver spray paint. One would hope the builder also glued the pieces together so that the car can actually withstand trips through time.

YouTuber native118 created this awesome custom-built flying quadrocopter modeled after Doc Brown’s DeLorean from Back to the Future. Besides sporting LED lighting effects and intricate detail right down to a tiny Mr. Fusion, the model features stabilization control powered by MultiWii, a HobbyKing 12A BlueSeries speed controller, and Turnigy 2204-14T motors.

Needless to say, this thing would be huge if it was available as a real product.

As previously reported, Mattel is taking orders for Hoverboard replicas which have all of the looks and none of the functionality of the on-screen Back To The Future version. Now web series Beyond the Marquee is giving viewers a behind the scenes look at the replica board’s creation. When all is said and done, you’ll get a sense of Mattel’s attention to detail on this piece.

As promised last month, official Back to the Future Hoverboard replicas from Mattel are now available for pre-order. The board is a 1:1 replica of the film version right down to the smallest detail (except for that whole hovering thing). It even features various “whooshing” sounds sampled from the movie.

Even if the board doesn’t hover, it’s not a bad deal for $120—especially since each board will come with a version scaled for 6-inch action figures.

Keep in mind that because of the high cost of production, Mattel must receive a minimum number of orders between now and March 20th in order to ship. Customers won’t be charged if the quota isn’t met, but not getting a board would be truly tragic. So pitch in and order while you can.
