With Adventure Time winding down, Frederator Studios is gearing up for a new project that will undoubtedly excite fans of classic gaming.

During and appearance on the Nickelodeon Animation podcast, Fred Seibert of Frederator noted that his team is working on an “unnamed” project “based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years.” “[W]e’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started,” he said. “But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going.”

While he doesn’t mention Castlevania specifically, there is evidence to suggest that this is the project in question. [click to continue…]

nintendo theme music

Sonya Belousova is a composer and pianist, and she’s pretty darn talented. She’s made videos for the Cosplay Piano series and is currently in the midst of an IndieGoGo campaign to fund a Player Piano project. She took a request from an IndieGoGo supporter for an “On the Spot” video, and in these videos, Belousova listens to music for a few seconds and creates new arrangements from it immediately.

This request was for themes from classic Nintendo games like Kid Icarus, DuckTales, and Super Mario Bros. Belousova has an amazing ear because she turns around and creates some beautiful takes on the familiar music.

3D castlevania board

When we last heard from Redditor XsimonbelmontX, he had spent months constructing a custom Fallout Monopoly game for his wife. He received so much positive feedback that he was inspired to create a board game take on Castlevania, and it’s just as amazing as his last custom build.

He included 11 unique characters, and each character has an upgrade deck of 10-15 abilities. Those abilities are randomly unlocked each time the character levels up. The story of the game follows Simon’s Quest, and it’s obvious he put a lot of work into figuring out the design and gameplay.

pixel paintings 2

Old and cheap paintings are made to be modified, and French artist Gauvain Manhattan has transformed six images he found at flea markets. He improved the art by making them pixelated and fabulous. The paintings are now masterpieces because they resemble classic games like Castlevania and Duck Hunt. In other words, they all leveled up.

Three brothers from Finland spent seven years making this amazing, full-length movie called KastleVania 4 as a tribute to the Castlevania game series. They did the whole movie with Lego bricks and even added special effects and voice acting. I can’t even imagine how hard it was to stay focused and finish this film, but it was worth it because the end result is really something special.
