It would take a lot for the Doctor to ditch his police call box, but this TARDIS motorbike spotted at Phoenix Comicon just might do the trick. It is at least as cool as this Iron Man scooter and actually, since it can probably go faster (and travel through time and space) it might be cooler.

Kids have delightful imaginations but not the best understanding of how the human body fits together. Therefore, their drawings and doodles are often a bit out of balance. People and animals have spindly legs that couldn’t hold them up and illustrations of family pets are sort of just one big blob. That’s what makes them great though—they’re always fun to look at. With that in mind, Wendy Tsao has started a business to turn those drawings into little stuffed toys. Brilliant.
Child’s Own Studios is pretty straightforward. You submit your kid’s illustration, and Tsao turns it into a three dimensional plushie. She’s created dozens of the adorable toys so far, and the service is so popular she’s actually not taking new commissions at the moment. You’ll want to keep her information on file though for when she’s available again. This would make a great gift for a kid, not to mention a priceless momento for parents as the child grows to adulthood.

If you read comic books, there’s been a time (or times) when you’ve pictured yourself in the story. Maybe you pretend you’re Captain America, Black Widow, Wolverine, or a new character you’ve imagined. At least, I’m guessing it isn’t just me who does this.
The Comics Factory has a team of digital artists ready to turn you into the (officially licensed) superhero you’ve always wanted to be. You can have your face blended into any of the hero costumes mentioned above, you can describe a custom character, or you can even partner up with friends for multi-hero/villain images. The finished images come in various sizes with framing options.
I think these would make a great gift for the comics fan in your life, and they’d be perfect for upcoming Mother’s and Father’s Days! Who wouldn’t want a picture of themselves as Spider-Man?

Little know fact—R2-D2 likes to DJ on the weekends. Rumor has it that he was in a bar one night and was mistaken by drunken revelers for a keg. Long story short, he got drenched in beer, short-circuited and accidentally created dubstep.
This R2-D2 turntable was sent to us by Nerd Approved reader Jessica. She states that the
“Tech, lights and all mechanics are by Tex Nasty at Remix turntable lab. Paint/Theme art by Ed Hubbs at full blown kustoms.”
Thanks Jessica!

Why curl up with a plushie of your favorite character from Adventure Time when you could just sleep under it instead? I made that sound creepier than it is. Etsy seller Plentiful Designs makes fleece blankets made to look like characters from the cartoon. Jake is shown in the above sample, but you can make requests for other characters and sizes. It’s adorable and such a perfect gift for fans of the show.

An entire Battlestar made from Lego bricks is impressive enough on its own. When you learn that builder Garry King put together the Battlestar Valkyrie by only using reference images from the internet, you can’t help but bow down to his mad skills. But, it gets even cooler. The model is a behemoth; it weighs in at 111 pounds. It measures 122 inches long by 43 inches wide—almost twice as tall as me! That’s hard to wrap my head around—as is the five months it took for King to build the ship out of over 42,000 pieces.
I would never volunteer to help move it. I’m a wuss and couldn’t carry much of the weight, but mostly, I’d hate to be responsible for dropping something that took so much time to put together – even if the pieces are glued together. Wow.

I’ve not seen many – or any – Lego builds I’d call sexy, but this 1:15 scale DeLorean certainly earns the title. Alex Jones aka Orion Pax constructed the time traveling car completely out of Lego bricks and finished it with a coat of silver spray paint. One would hope the builder also glued the pieces together so that the car can actually withstand trips through time.

DeviantART member batman-n-bananas created this steampunk Portal gun using (among other things) parts from an antique clock, hangers, plumbing parts, a plant pot, various lids, plastic tub, a pocket laser disc, lightbulbs, metal covering from an old hairbrush and copious amounts of glue. Somehow he managed to pull all of it together to create the awesomeness you see here.
