domo down

A number of popular Japanese mascots took to the ice during the recent NHK Trophy figure skating event, including Domo-kun, the mascot for Japan’s national public broadcaster NHK. Unfortunately, during his routine, the giant brown cube took a spill and was unable to get up.

Other mascots soon came to Domo-kun’s aid as he flopped around helplessly, but failed to remedy the situation, prompting a call for backup.

Needless to say, Domo-kun was thrilled to be back on his feet, although the performer could just be celebrating the fact that the costume has given him the gift of anonymity.

Funko practically has the market on cute vinyl figures cornered. Their Pop! line is vast and they’re adding to their collection all the time. They’ve successfully stepped into the realm of mash-ups before, and if you’re a fan of Domo and Ghostbusters, you’ll love their latest series. They put the two franchises together for Domo versions of Staypuft, Slimer, and a Ghostbuster.

Pre-order now to receive the figures in February.

A whole bunch of cute is coming your way in the form of the Domo DC Heroes Pop! Vinyl Figures. They’re coming soon to the Nerd Approved Shop!

Domo gets to borrow costumes from a few DC Comics superheroes including two versions of Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Superman – the mash-up completely works. Domo is probably thrilled about gaining temporary powers like super speed, super wealth, and super strength! I think fans of both franchises will want to add these to toy collections. I, for one, hope that they will be so popular that someone will decide to turn them into cuddly plushes.

Pre-order the toys now! They’ll ship in March 2013.

Funko has announced a team-up between Domo and DC Comics that’s giving us these fantastic blind box vinyl figures. Each measures 2.5″ tall and will retail for $5.95 when they debut on February 28th. There are 14 different characters, some of which come in more than one version.

You’ll be able to collect Batman (3 versions), Robin (2 versions), Superman (2 versions), Clark Kent, Aquaman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Shazam, The Riddler and Two-Face. Some of them are more rare than others, as you can see by the ratios in the first image. Superman with his shirt open is ridiculously rare with only 1/144 boxes holding him inside!

You don’t want to make Super Domo angry—his farts are lethal. However, he can be easily defeated with a bushel of apples and/or a really good show on TV.
