With yesterday’s announcement that Activision’s next Call of Duty game will be revealed on May 1st during TNT’s broadcast of the NBA playoffs, its only natural that viral marketing efforts are sure to follow. One of the first examples comes from the YouTube series “FPS Russia”, who demonstrated a military quadrotor with a machine gun. As cool as it is to watch, it’s completely fake:

“’I can tell from the pixels’ arguments aside, there are a few things which should be setting off your BS sensors in this video. Mostly that it’s just too good to be true: 30 mph top speed; slim, sophisticated design; unidentifiable weapon; and shockingly good picture quality on the hand-held tablet. Not to mention that this robot would be way ahead of any comparable device available today, nor the ludicrous concept of loading an enormous explosive into a piece of expensive military hardware.”

There’s also the fact that an extremely high-tech piece of technology would be given the same name as Bart Simpson’s putter. Whatever the case, you can at least marvel at technology’s ability to fake something it can’t yet produce.

Keenan Bosworth gave a lucky friend this custom Nintendo 64 coffee table, which includes an 18″ pine N64 logo as its base. This is actually Keenan’s second example of the table, the first being a Christmas gift for his brother.

Although the table isn’t available for sale, Keenan is in the process of creating an Instructables page for the project and has posted a number of additional photos of the build on his imgur thread.

The intense criticism from fans relating to the ending of Mass Effect 3 prompted EA to announce that an “Extended Cut” DLC will be released for free sometime this summer. The goal of the content is to provide “additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes,” resulting in “further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3″ and “deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes.”

Needless to say, that’s going to be a tall order.

Although no additional details are available, studio co-founder Ray Muzyka states that “with the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc.”

After its initial release, the extended cut will remain available until April 12, 2014.

Drawing inspiration from a recent reddit thread that examined how games might look from a different perspective, Paul from Unreality Magazine applied the concept to some of his favorite games. Afterwards, it seems pretty clear that game developers are insane.

Before BioShock 1 and BioShock 2 an important event took place in Rapture. “In the lowest parts of the city, a small group of splicers have something planned that will change the course of Andrew Ryan’s vision of utopia.” And now a fan film, New Year’s End, gives you a peek at this historical moment. The film is exceptionally well done – nice acting, props, lighting, everything – and it managed to creep me right out.
