If there’s one thing geeks know how to do, it’s argue over stuff. Important stuff like Kirk vs Picard, or Evangelion vs Gundam. Maybe you should all look at this Lego creation as a coming together of different views. There’s no need to argue when given a choice between two obviously fantastic geeky things. They can live together in perfect Lego harmony and we can move on to more important issues like world peace and how to stop Michael Bay from destroying the Ninja Turtles.

When one thinks of giant robots, one doesn’t usually think of them being made of paper. Taras Lesko is here to change that perception. He constructed a 7 foot papercraft Gundam. The mech was made from 750 sheets of paper and only weighs around ten pounds. I like the idea of paper robots; when they decide to take over the world (as all robots do), you can just torch them and call it a day.

I’m sure all of us think it would be wicked cool to have a 60 Foot Gundam statue of our very own, but it’s not like many of us have the money, means or mode of transportation to make that dream happen.
Bandai has come up with a solution to our space and money issues by announcing a 6 piece, mini-figure set that combines to build a faithful replica of the Gundam statue for less than $5 per piece.

I know it’s cute. I know it’s Gundam and I know someone probably loves this thing to squishy little bits — but I’ll admit that, if I used this as an alarm clock, it would become squishy little bits on the first morning it actually went off.
However, if you’re not as protective of your sleep as I am, and you need an extra jolt to get moving in the morning, you can get this Haro Alarm clock in pink and the original green. Or just don’t use it as an alarm clock and enjoy the cute. ::grin::

It may not be as ambitious as the 33-foot Optimus Prime junk-bot, but this sculpture takes the green prize in the Gundam category.
The RX-78-2 Gundam stands 10-feet tall and is made almost entirely from the plastic part trees leftover from smaller Gundam models. When all was said and done, it took over 350 man-hours to build.

As you will see in these time-lapse videos, the 59-foot Gundam statue in Shizuoka, Japan is a popular attraction. A few of the videos created by darwinfish105 are available after the break.

If only it came with a cute Japanese girl.
A disappointment for sure, but even without the girl you still get a giant 1/12 scale version of the RX-78-2 Gundam from Bandai that stands at just under 5-feet tall and weighs about 77 pounds.

If you were going to war you would love to have any of the Gundam’s weapons, they are far superior to what any army has today. And if you want to sit at your desk and just doodle all day, using a pen fashioned after the weapons of the Japanese anime series is better than using your old chewed up Bic. Stock up your armory with any of the 8 different models available, shown after the break.
