lightsaber

We may not have jet packs yet, but we do have working lightsabers. Really.

Wicked Lasers has made a “LaserSaber” that looks and functions like the weapons in the films. Obviously, the term “LaserSaber” is designed to avoid lawsuits from Lucasfilm, but it’s still a ballsy move considering that the company received a C&D letter from LucasFilm after the introduction of the Spyder Arctic III. Unfortunately for them, that letter appears to have had the opposite effect, serving only to put all kinds of ideas into WickedLaser’s heads.

The lightsaber-lookalike has a polycarbonate blade with an aluminum base that attaches to the company’s Spyder 3 laser, which as they point out, is the most powerful laser you can legally own. Wow. The guys in the picture aren’t wearing glasses while fighting because it’s cool, they’re protecting their eyes.

LaserSabers are energized by the light of Wicked Lasers, harnessing the power of the force. The LaserSaber features an ultra smooth magnetic gravity system that can “power up” and “power down” the blade.

I love the heck out of the idea of a real lightsaber; what Star Wars fan wouldn’t? I just hope people buying these wear the safety glasses necessary to avoid eye damage.

Regular lightbulbs are far too boring. Why choose them when you can have this awesome Darth Vader Lego lamp?! As you would expect, the light source is his lightsaber. You can use batteries to light the room, or you can power the lamp with your computer via a USB cord.  The Force might work, too; it’s worth a try. And since the lamp is a basically a 7.5″ Lego figure, it’s poseable! I might have to switch to the Dark side.

This lamp is available next month. Check out a demo video after the break.

Lucasfilm Ltd., Nerdist Industries, Octagon and Machinima have teamed up to create an Olympic style torch run with lightsabers. The event, called “Course of the Force” will run from July 7-11, and stretch from Santa Monica to San Diego, finishing up in time for Comic-Con’s preview night.

Participants can purchase and run quarter-mile spots along the course before passing their lightsaber on to the next runner. Best of all is that the proceeds from the event will benefit the Make a Wish Foundation.

A 30-year old man was arrested and taken in for a mental evaluation after he decided to terrorize patrons of a Portland Toys ‘R’ Us with a lightsaber. When the cops showed up, they found the man in the parking lot, but were unable to immediately arrest him due to his skillful flailing of the weapon.

Officers tried to arrest the man, but he kept swinging the light saber at them, Simpson said. One tried to use his Taser on the suspect but the device didn’t work. Another officer used his Taser and made contact, but the man knocked one of the wires away with the light saber.

However, the force was not strong with this one, and cops were eventually able to wrestle him to the ground. Hopefully nobody was injured during the altercation.
