The Make-A-Wish Foundation did what it does best for 7-year old Matthew Grammer—putting a smile on the face of a child struggling with a life-threatening situation. To fulfill his wish, Little Mountain Productions built Matthew a drivable R2-D2 that he got to show off at a school pep rally.

R/C helicopter producer Bladez Toyz has struck a deal with Lucasfilm to bring the Star Wars franchise to its Pump & Play R/C range. The first offering in the series will be this 26″ Jumbo Inflatable R2-D2 which is blown up with a foot pump and operates much like a remote controlled car.
The inflatable R2-D2 is slated for release late this year, and will sell for around $60. Check out a demonstration video after the break.
Who needs clunky combination locks when you can use an app? Zeon Tech has debuted nerdy TARDIS and R2-D2 Smartsafes at the Toy Fair in London that can be unlocked with a smartphone. You just need to download a free app and enter the passcode that you’ve designated. You can’t fit a ton of valuables in them, but then again, I’d feel weird about storing anything expensive in a TARDIS. The models will be out in the UK in June and will retail at £19.99 or around $31.

If you’ve been looking for the ultimate expression of love for R2-D2, this hand-tufted, blue and grey wool area rug should do the trick. Depending on the size of your space you can choose from 3′x5′ ($129 USD), 5′x7′ ($299) or 8′x10′ ($599) sizes.

R2-D2, the armchair droid, will obediently follow you to conventions, campsites, outdoor events and more. Sadly, we’re pretty sure that Artoo won’t be enjoying too much hot Princess Leia lap sitting.

If you want your Star Wars obsession to carry over to your music player, consider this R2-D2 MP4 player, which will allow you to store roughly 500 songs on its 2GB of space, and comes equipped with button controls and C-3P0 headphones. That’s not much when compared to iPods and smartphones, but it’s pretty obvious that functionality isn’t really the point here.
The device is currently sold out on the Toys “R” Us website, but the product page also states that it is sold in stores.

In an effort to partake in decent conversation that doesn’t involve a neurotic gold protocol droid, R2-D2 is training this baby in the hope that he will one day be fluent in his language. As you’ll see in the video after the break, there’s a long road ahead.
